WDD Architects led the renovation and addition of the Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs, Arkansas, transforming one of the state’s premier science and education destinations into an immersive learning environment. Working alongside internationally recognized exhibit designer Exploratorium of San Francisco, WDD reimagined the museum with new interactive exhibits, modern visitor amenities, renovated educational spaces, and the iconic 10,000-square-foot Science Skywalk.
The 10,000-square-foot Science Skywalk extends the museum experience beyond the building into the surrounding Ouachita forest. Connected by bridges and pathways, the elevated outdoor learning environment features an illuminated treehouse, interactive exhibits, rope bridges, and observation platforms that immerse visitors in science and nature while creating a one-of-a-kind educational experience.
Designed to complement the Ouachita Mountain landscape, the Skywalk encourages exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning at every turn.
Inside the museum, renovations transformed exhibit galleries, classrooms, offices, and public gathering spaces to create a more engaging visitor experience. Working with the Exploratorium of San Francisco, WDD Architects helped develop interactive exhibits and flexible learning environments that inspire curiosity while supporting education, community events, and year-round programming.
