Client: City of Little Rock
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas
Project Type: Zoo Landscape Architecture
Services: Landscape Architecture, Irrigation Design and Construction Administration
As part of the Little Rock Zoo’s ongoing improvements, WDD Architects developed the landscape architecture and irrigation plans for 2.5 acres surrounding the zoo’s entry area. Working closely with zoo horticulturist Melissa Schock, the design incorporates more than 250 plant species, with an emphasis on native Arkansas plants. The landscaping is part of a larger effort to improve the visitor experience while considering the needs of the zoo’s animal habitats.

The landscape design features native stonework, carefully selected plantings and two fountains that complement the surrounding animal exhibits and public spaces. WDD coordinated the irrigation, fountain and site lighting designs, preparing construction documents and providing construction administration services. The landscape plan considers both the zoo’s horticultural requirements and the needs of animals living within the surrounding habitats.
