This new Public Safety Building for the City of Harrison is designed to house the Police Department HQ and the Fire Department Central Station under one roof. Utilizing the existing site of the fire station #2 and
adjacent softball field, WDD took the programming needs of both the PD HQ and FD Central Station to develop this 36,000 square foot, two-story facility.
The Fire portion of the facility includes 5 pull-through apparatus bays, associated gear storage, decontamination and laundry, kitchen/dining and living area, 8 offices, 6 sleeping quarters, and one designated conference room. The Police HQ includes evidence storage, large evidence storage, tactical equipment storage, 3 holding cells, 17 offices, 3 interrogation/polygraph rooms, a large squad room, dispatch/command center and one designated conference room. The two halves of the facility are separated by a common corridor containing a large training/multi-purpose room, weight room, break room, server room and IT office/storage and city offices. City offices include the Mayor’s office, city clerk’s office, city financial offices, various work rooms and storage, a conference room, and a large city council chambers off of the large lobby through the main entrance.
The design includes a large roof plaza, accessible from the second floor, and 2,600 SF of shell space on the second floor for future expansion of any departments.
